What does a hypnosis session feel like?

If you've never tried hypnosis before, you've probably pictured something a little dramatic — a swinging pocket watch, a stage performer, someone clucking like a chicken. I want to gently set all of that down. A real hypnosis session looks and feels nothing like that. It looks like a conversation. It feels like the kind of deep rest you didn't know you needed.

We start with a conversation

Every session begins the way any meaningful meeting does — with you talking and me listening. I want to understand what brought you here, what you've been carrying, what you'd like to feel differently. There's no pressure to have it all figured out. Often the most important things surface once we slow down enough to notice them.

This part matters. Hypnosis works best when it's pointed at something specific, and that clarity comes from us sitting with your story together first.

Settling in

When we're ready, I'll guide you into a comfortable position — usually leaning back, eyes closed, hands resting wherever feels natural. I'll talk you through some slow breathing and a gentle body scan. Your shoulders will drop. Your jaw will soften. You might notice your thoughts beginning to quiet on their own.

This is the part people often describe as feeling like the moment just before sleep — aware, but pleasantly heavy. You're not asleep. You're not unconscious. You can hear me the whole time, and you can open your eyes and stretch whenever you need to. You're simply settled.

The deeper work

From this calm, settled place, we begin the actual work — and it looks different for everyone. Sometimes I guide you through a visualisation. Sometimes we revisit a memory with new compassion. Sometimes we offer your nervous system a new pattern to try on, gently, without force.

What's happening underneath is the important part: your conscious mind has stepped back enough for your subconscious — the part of you running most of the show — to actually listen. That's where lasting change starts. Not from being told to feel differently, but from being invited to.

Coming back

I'll bring you back slowly. You'll stretch, take a sip of water, maybe sit quietly for a moment. Most people describe feeling lighter, clearer, sometimes a little teary in a good way. Some feel deeply rested, the way you do after a long walk or a really good night's sleep. There's no right way to come out of it.

We'll talk briefly about what came up and what to notice in the days that follow. The work continues quietly after you leave — your subconscious keeps integrating long after our session ends.

What it isn't

You won't lose control. You won't reveal secrets you didn't choose to share. You can't be made to do anything that doesn't align with who you are. Hypnosis isn't something done to you — it's something we do together, and you are in the driver's seat the entire time.

If you're curious

The best way to know how it feels is to feel it. I offer a complimentary 30-minute getting-to-know-you session so we can talk, see if we're a good fit, and answer any of the questions that are still floating around in your mind. There's no commitment — just a warm conversation.

If something in you is whispering that it might be time, I'd love to hear from you.
